Background
Marise has been with Staples Rodway in various capacities since
1986. Her strengths in rural and business accounting are supported
by a lengthy background in farming - from hands on experience as a
farmer to governance level and Directorships on the board of
several rural based companies including Kiwi Dairies and Fonterra.
"I've been able to see the whole value change of the business, from
being a producer to being a governor. That experience has been
invaluable in providing service to our clients."
One of the things Marise finds most satisfying in her role is
relationship building. "The trust clients have in what we're doing
for them is very important to us" says Marise, "we want to be the
business advisers that people want to work for and the place that
people automatically think of taking their business to, because of
the way we do things".
Specialist Areas
Winning the prestigious Nuffield Scholarship in 1998 gave Marise
the opportunity to travel to the UK, Europe and the USA for six
months studying Co-operative vs. Corporate Dairy companies, the
Impact of Deregulation in the UK Dairy Market and Animal
Welfare/Environmental issues. She has extensive specialist
knowledge of the dairy industry and over the past few years has
been developing her skills in business valuation.
Marise's interest in co-operatives and their governance has
extended from her dairying background. She is currently a Director
of Landcorp, FMG and Farmers Mutual Finance Limited, and is a
member of the WITT Council, TSB Community Trust and Nuffield
Scholarship Trust.
Personal Interests
Outside of work sport is a dominant feature of Marise's spare
time. The gumboots are often replaced by sports shoes for a session
at the gym or out on the road and she is also a particularly
passionate rugby supporter, often leading the heated tea room
debate about the latest results!
